Nurturing young talent this summer

As the summer holidays speedily approach, we took some time out last week to open up our doors to a local student, keen to find out about the world of work. Here's her experience in her own words.

Hannah - testing our hotwire"I am so glad I have had the opportunity to work with the team at Floriture. It has been a great experience and it has also really helped me with choosing what I want to do when I leave school. I am also glad I came here because it has been a different experience compared to other work experience placements.

When I came to Floriture on my first day I didn’t have a clue what I would be doing other than making flower displays, but I had a talk with Alex and he told me everything about the business, so I found out a little bit more which really helped me understand it fully. I have now found out about other parts of the business.

Throughout the week I have done many different things to make me use a wider range of skills and try any challenges set. It has been great working in the office because I love using the programmes on the laptops and seeing what other businesses do.  I also went to a photoshoot with Alex to photograph the products, which I enjoyed because it was different and I got to see the products in more detail. I have also learned how to make proper tea, which should be useful in other jobs in the future!

I am happy I have come to this work experience placement as it has made me realise how difficult work is compared to school.  This experience has also made me notice that I can do things that I didn’t think I could do."

Hannah enjoyed her visit with us so much and we were impressd with her enthusiasm and commitment, that we have invited her to come back for a few days during the holidays to follow the progress of some of the projects she worked on. Having a student in the office was certainly a valuable and educational experience for both parties and one we're likely to repeat in the future. Time for a cuppa now I think….. oh it's my turn !
