Three Weddings & No Funeral...
The team and I have almost recovered from last week’s weddings…one on Thursday, one on Friday and another on Saturday. Then we collapsed on the Sunday.
We started our floral triathlon with a wedding full of predominantly red roses….such a refreshing change at this time of year and mixed them up with frothy alchemilla mollis and grasses to give everything a very summery, relaxed feel.
Alex and Neville tied the knot at one of our old haunts the Great Tythe Barn in Tetbury, which lends itself beautifully to the loose, country styles so many of our brides are requesting.
Enamel buckets filled with roses, euc, alchemilla and lemon balm made simple, effective table displays
After a good nights sleep we then got to work on Danielle & Sam’s wedding, held at Winkworth Farm, nestled deep in the Wiltshire countryside – another lovely, very rural venue. Roses played their part again, but this time we got to play with some of the ‘big boys’ – David Austin roses...an excellent alternative to a peony (which you’ll know if you read my last blog is now a bit tricky to get hold of ). These garden roses are just gorgeous and each has an individual scent to die for!
Danielle wanted a bouquet that was slightly trailing, but wouldn’t dwarf her (one of our diddiest brides!). We created a hand-tied bouquet (rather than using a nasty oasis holder) and filled it with roses, including some Patience and Rosalind DA varieties, sweet pea’s, stocks (for even more scent!), rosemary, euc and trailing ivy….really pretty!
Overall the look was relaxed, romantic and reminiscent of an English country garden on a summer’s day with a slightly vintage edge.
No rest for the wicked, so it was back to base to finish off the flowers for Saturday’s couple – Nicola and Richard. This time we travelled cross-country (through a village actually called Tiddlywink..honest!) to Guyers House, near Corsham. Such a beautiful venue…and the most wonderful gardens.
We used similar flowers to Friday’s wedding, but included lisianthus and wax flowers within the bridal bouquets for added movement.
It was the perfect setting (and weather!) for our bride and groom who had chosen to have a humanist ceremony outside under a small marquee. Nicola is big fan of Alice & Wonderland, so she wanted the flowers to have a slightly quirky feel to them.
And then it was ‘home james’ for a well-deserved rest…and big, fat cake – or in my case something cold & alcoholic! Big thanks to Debs & Judith….you worked your little socks off!
