A floral triumph – or just blooming extravagant ?

Here at Floriture H/Q we admire and applaud the work of many inspirational floral designers and none more so than the talented Belgian designer Mark Colle

For Raf Simons’s debut for Dior Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, he, together with 40 other florists, over the course 4 days, lined the rooms of a Parisian mansion with over 1 million fresh flowers including roses, peonies, dahlias and orchids. The results are truly breathtaking – just watch the video to be amazed!

However, it has got us thinking… is this concept really an appropriate application for fresh flowers. I wonder whether the idea of using faux flowers for something so extravagant was ever discussed – the benefits being significantly lower cost and with no wastage at the end of the event as all the blooms could be re-used?

Obviously with a fashion giant such as Dior, you would imagine money is really no object, and the fleeting beauty of fresh flowers adds to the ephemeral ambiance of the show itself, but isn’t it time prominent brands, such as Dior, started thinking about their greener credentials for what was in reality only a 15 minute show?

What are your thoughts? We’d love to hear from you!
